How to get website traffic quickly

You have a website. It looks great and is ready for business. Now what? Well, you need traffic to your website. A website without traffic is like a car showroom with the lights off.

There are a handful of methods for getting traffic to your website that will work if you stick with them for the long haul. Some are slow and methodical like organic traffic from the major search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo! Of course you should have an organic traffic plan in place. Organic traffic is free and in the long-term it will yield results (people to your site). But how can you begin getting a significant amount of traffic to your website today to get things cranked up?

Here are a couple ideas to get your wheels spinning…

Google Adwords
Google Adwords has been around for years and has yielded impressive results for some, while others have struck out with their heads down walking back to the dugout. The key to success with Adwords is to focus on niche keywords with little competition and use enticing ad copy for your ads.

Facebook advertising
Advertising on Facebook is relatively new. The enticing thing about advertising is your ability to hyper target niche groups of people that you have identified as your target market. For example, if you sell solar panels to wealthy people living in California who are typically aged 35-55, you can target that specific market. The con of using Facebook as an traffic generation tool is that advertising prices are steadily on the rise. However, with a well planned execution you can have a successful marketing campaign.

Get high traffic websites to write about you
Approach websites within your field that have already taken the steps to get high amounts of traffic. Piggyback off their success. If your business has a unique feature of has a good story to tell, be sure to mention it when approaching these sites. Chances are you aren’t the only one approaching them with the same idea for getting traffic to their site.

What does the popular website get in return? Providing their readers with quality information about a quality business like yours. This is where having a cool story to tell comes into play. Here is an example where I did exactly this with my local newspaper for my business tinyhouselistings.com.

A bonus for having such an article written about your business is that search engines like Google will reward you for being mentioned by an already established website. It’s like saying “well if the popular guys are writing about you, then you must have some legitimacy”. Sweet!

There are of course many other ways to quickly start bringing folks to your site, all of which are quick and have a proven track record if well-planned and executed.

Sophic specializes in helping you quickly begin getting traffic to your website.

mobile-website-traffic-analyze

I own and operate a website called Tiny House Listings. The site allows people to post and browse tiny houses for sale and for rent. This morning I pulled a report to see how many people came to the site over the past week. Traffic numbers are up!

While I was there, I figured I’d see how many people came to the site using a mobile device. I was shocked!

It turns out that over 10% of people who visited tinyhouselistings.com did so via a mobile device.

Just three months ago this figure was hovering around 5%. Perhaps three months from now mobile visitors will account for 15%? And the three months after that?

Now that I have this data, I am asking myself:

  • • How do I capitalize on this?
  • • What needs to be tweaked or changed to accommodate mobile visitors?
  • • Is it time to build a mobile app for my mobile customers?
  • • What other considerations do I need to consider for planning?

My question to you is, what have you done to prepare and accommodate your mobile website visitors?

How to get repeat business

1.) Get a visitor to your website
2.) Make a sale
3.) Repeat

Do you have the tools in place to follow this simple sales formula? Or do people simply come to your website once and then bounce over to your competitors site and become a customer of theirs?

A website visitor has intrinsic value

When someone visits your website, that means you did something to get them there. Perhaps you did a good job for someone and they referred the visitor to your site. Perhaps you posted a Facebook status update with a link to your site. Maybe someone got to your site from Google.

Regardless of how they got there, the point is that they are there. That person on your site at that moment in time has value. You have their attention. TV stations charge more for advertising during popular shows. Get it? Now what?

Not now, but maybe later?

Depending on the nature of your business and your website, it could be that you don’t have anything on your site that the visitor is currently in need of. But maybe you will sometime in the future?

Or perhaps they don’t have enough time (or enough attention span) to read through your material. But maybe they have enough time to give you their email? Or like your business on Facebook?

People are often hesitant to make a decision right now.

Tools to set traps

So what should you do to solve this? What you need are traps. You need tools to make sure that visitor you worked so hard to get becomes your customer, remains your customer and tells their friends. If not now, perhaps later. Once you have a suite of tools like this in place, you can begin to build an audience of potential customers instead of people that came to your site and left, never to be seen again.

Sophic specializes in putting tools in place to build and maintain an audience that will help your business grow.

Website Redesign and Relaunch

After almost three full years of serving us well, we finally decided to retire our old website and relaunch with a completely redesigned site that once again puts us ahead of the pack.

There were a bucket load of reasons we decided to give our website an overhaul. Here are a few of them:

  • • Let our potential customers know we’re on top of our game and plan to stay that way
  • • More embedded functionality and expandability for continued growth and features if need be
  • • Faster-loading site, which search engines like Google give lots of brownie points for
  • • Provide a more mature and established look after being in business for over 7 years

2.) Make our new website show up in the search engine

Not only did we remodel the website’s look, we remodeled it’s popularity. We started with the basics. We made each page on the site search engine optimized by giving it the necessary meta data (stuff search engine’s look at to see what you’re all about) to say “Hi, I’m here”.

From there, we dug a little deeper and implemented some of the nitty gritty stuff to make the website say “Hi, I’m here, and this is what I’m all about.”

In the coming weeks and months we’ll be closely monitoring our customer’s website performance to make sure the fruits of our labor payoff. We have a feeling they will…
