Posted on February 21, 2009

Google is a search engine powerhouse because its focus is and has always been on “relevance”. When you use Google to find something, chances are, you’ll find it. This is because Google looks at a website and ranks its relevance (using a complex algorithm) of the search being performed. If you invest in pay per click advertising, or plan to, you’ll want to study up on what is called “Quality Score”. Basically, a high quality score = less money you spend on a click. This is because to obtain a high quality score, you must focus on relevance. Here’s how Google scores your quality score.

Great summary. Advertisers really need to give thought as to their PPC campaigns, I run into people all the time that did not realize there is a “Quality Score” algo.
One other benefit to a high QS, is not only can you pay less CPC, but you can appear higher in position and still pay less than your competition! Google rewards “relevant” ads….
Great post and reminder guys, you are always dead on :) …I love your site!

Using long tail keywords seems to be the best method to avoid wasting $$$ on general AW campaigns. I suspect this is why us Wordtracker users do so well.
